Daufuskie Island Historic Cottage Rental

(AKA Gullah House)

Boat to the CottageThe only historic Gullah House Rental on Daufuskie Island.  Step back in time with the true ambiance of the island as it was in the 1920’s.  Furnished with period items, your stay will bring you back to the simple times on the island.

The home was built in 1926 for Amelia Bently and after her death in 1961 was passed on to her two daughters Helen and Josepine who were raised there.

The house remained in their family uninhabited from around 1960 until purchased by the Lahrs in 1986. With a vision, love, and hard work, it has been brought back to life and remains one of the six still standing built during the period of 1924 thru 1926 and one of only three actually habitable. Over the years since 1986, the house has been added on to with water and electric installed to make it a cozy and quaint enviroment but keeping in character with the island’s Gullah architecture.
